Manchester Jewish House of Worship Assault Fatalities Named
Two victims losing their lives in an attack on a synagogue in Manchester have been identified by authorities as 53-year-old Adrian Daulby, and Melvin Cravitz, 66.
Three additional individuals remain in hospital with serious injuries after the attacker drove a vehicle into people before stabbing others on the morning of the incident.
The assault, which police have said was a terror-related event, took place during the Day of Atonement, the most sacred occasion in the Jewish faith.
The attacker, who was fatally shot at the location, was a thirty-five-year-old British citizen of Syrian heritage who was not on record to terrorism investigators, as stated by government sources.
Community Response
"Right now our hearts are shattered," Britain's senior Jewish leader declared.
During a conversation on a prominent media outlet, he remarked: "What transpired yesterday was a terrible shock to us, something which we had apprehensions regarding might happen because of the escalating tensions."
The attack was not only "a profoundly troubling moment" for Jewish citizens nationwide "but for the entire nation," he continued.
Security Measures
"Our obligation is to ensure our Jewish community, our citizens can conduct their daily activities with security and assurance," the Home Secretary announced.
"We cannot allow Jewish people in our country to believe they must live a reduced Jewish identity, that they cannot pursue their activities and follow their beliefs and go to their communal institutions in liberty," she continued.
The assailant was not recognized to terrorism investigators, she stated to news organizations, and it was "premature" to say if there was a terrorist cell behind the attack.
Police Inquiry
The criminal probe was "continuing at pace" and there was an additional law enforcement visibility at religious institutions across the UK.
"Authorities allocate security funding," the minister commented, adding: "I think we will have to consider what more we can do to combat growing religious prejudice."
Law enforcement officials announced they were providing help to loved ones of the two men killed.
"Our heartfelt condolences are with Mr Daulby and Mr Cravitz's loved ones at this incredibly difficult period," law enforcement leadership expressed.
He confirmed that specialized support personnel were in touch with relatives and would continue to support them through the official inquiries.
"Whilst there are processes which need compliance, we pledge to remain sensitive of community customs and needs and to guaranteeing that these men and their relatives' requests are respected," he continued, stating that the deceased individuals were from Crumpsall.
Post-mortems are taking place on the next day, as confirmed by authoritative reports.
