Marnus Labuschagne Omitted from Australian One-Day International Team to Face India

The Australian selectors have left out Labuschagne from Australia's three-match ODI series versus India, with high-performing Queensland colleague Matt Renshaw receiving a surprise selection.

Performance Issues Result in Omission

Selectors dropped Labuschagne from the one-day international squad after being dismissed for one in his two batting efforts during the top-end series against South Africa in August. Labuschagne has a best innings of 47 in his previous ten ODI batting appearances.

The batsman has played 68 ODIs and scored 1,871 runs at an average of 34.64, but will now continue to press his claims a return to the Test side ahead of the Ashes beginning in Perth on 21 November.

Renshaw's Return and Other Squad Updates

There have been indications of a resurgence with 160 for Queensland in the Sheffield Shield this week, while Renshaw also hit a hundred for the Bulls in the identical match against Tasmania.

Renshaw could to make his first white-ball appearance in the upcoming series against India after his last inclusion in an ODI squad in 2022.

Squad Selection Approach and Fixtures

Australia have announced a squad for only the first two T20s against India with the Ashes approaching, although Glenn Maxwell will miss all of the five-game T20 series due to a wrist problem suffered in New Zealand.

Mitch Marsh will captain both the ODI and T20 teams after scoring a hundred in the final game against New Zealand to seal a two-nil victory last week.

“We have named a squad for the ODI series and initial two matches of the T20 series as there will be rotation through the later stages of the series as individuals prepare for the summer through Sheffield Shield cricket,” selection chief George Bailey said.
“The majority of the T20 squad will stay as a group as it’s an crucial phase in the build towards the World Cup next year, however we are aiming to find equilibrium to ensure we simultaneously get ready specific players for the Test matches ahead.”

Australia’s three-match ODI series against India commences on 19 October in Perth, before the rivals play five T20 internationals from October 29.
