New York Attorney General Confronts Federal Bank Fraud Indictment
A national judicial panel has charged the New York attorney general for bank fraud this past Thursday, per a person familiar with the matter.
Lindsey Halligan personally presented the case to the grand jury this Thursday, according to the source.
US attorneys rarely address a grand jury.
Halligan took over the position recently following the president expressed dissatisfaction with the pace of investigations targeting political opponents.
The move is the president’s latest effort to leverage the DOJ to punish adversaries.
It follows two weeks after Halligan obtained indictments against James Comey.
Experienced attorneys prepared a memo in that case detailing the reasons charges lacked merit.
Comey pleaded not guilty on Wednesday.
